24 year old, inexperienced guy here again!

I’m 6’3, fairly slim upper body, not defined in any way, but getting just a little bit of a beer gut (I need to get rid of that!). My lower body is a bit thicker and more muscular than my upper body.

So, what sort of exercising should I be doing to get my body into dancing shape? I was told to avoid heavy weights at the gym as they bulk you up and you never see really bulky dancers. I was told to avoid running as it’s strenuous in the legs.

I really need to get my stomach a little flatter as well as build strength and flexibility. I wouldn’t mind adding a little bit of size, but not too much. I think my legs could be a little smaller too.

Should I do yoga? Weights? Pilates? What type of cardio?

  2. Esther, u’ve lost weight !!!!!!!!
    U look quite slim.

  3. Esther, thank you so much for your videos. I can’t find a good ioga master, and your lessons help me a lot.

mostly the problem i have with doing arm balances or things like this that are supposed to help with arm strength is that my wrists start to hurt. do you have any tips for preventing or lessening wrist pain while working on upper arm/body strength?
    thanks!
    lilly

  7. Hi Lily, yeah.. that is a common enough problem. You want to pull / suck in the centre of your palm a bit, like you want to pull it up toward your shoulder. Another thing you can do with certain poses is placing a folded towel underneath your wrist so the angle is not as intense. Than just build it up slowly, with practice your wrist will get stronger.
    Good luck!

  8. Esther. My left shoulder makes a rippling, crunching noise when I roll it. It is not painful, just sort of crunchy sounding… or crunchy feeling. What can I do to help this? It’s in the trapezeus (sp?) area.

  9. hi esther i have been following your yoga sequences for three months now and i definitely notice a difference in my strength, my posture and my overall body tone. someone else posted that they couldn’t find a good yoga teacher; well i started attending a yoga class but eventually left as i honestly felt you were more helpful then they were! Can’t wait for your dvd to come out! All the best

  18. is that just for Male’s?

  19. This is very helpful. Thanks! I would love to see more advanced positions for upper body strengthening soon! I find downward dolphin (on forearms) very helpful for shoulder strength. Esther, could you also add for us some positions to aid in mobility for the thoracic spine? This gets so tight with me.
