    i’ve done yoga only 2 times, and i don’t really get the point of it. i’m not trying to diss yoga or anything. i don’t think it’s stupid, i just don’t get the point of it. cardio helps you lose fat, lifting weights helps strenghthen your muscles. what does yoga help you with? is it just supposed to be something thats relaxing? does it help with balance, what? thank you to anybody who answers i appreciate it.

Obesity is common among people in Western countries and among the higher income groups in India and other developing countries. Obesity can occur at any age in either sex. Its incidence is higher in persons who consume more food and lead sedentary lives. Among women, obesity is liable to occur after pregnancy and at menopause. A woman usually gains about 12 kgs of weight during pregnancy. Part of this is an increase in the adipose tissue, which serves as a store against the demands of lactation. Many women gain more and retain part of this weight. They become progressively obese with each succeeding child. Obesity is a serious health hazard as the extra fats puts a strain on the heart, kidneys and liver as well as the large weight-bearing joints such as the hips, knees and ankles, which ultimately shortens the life span. It has been truly said, ‘the longer the belt, the short the life.‘ Overweight persons are susceptible to several diseases like coronary thrombosis, heart failure, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, gout, and liver and gall-bladder disorders. Causes: The chief cause of obesity, most often, is overeating – i.e., the intake of calories beyond the body’s energy requirement. Some people are habituated to eating too much while others may be in the habit of consuming high-calorie foods. These people gain weight continuously as they fail to adjust their appetite to reduce energy requirements. There has, in recent times, been an increase in awareness of psychological aspects of obesity. Persons who are generally bored, unhappy, lonely, or unloved, those who are discontented with their families, or social or financial standing usually tend to overeat as eating is a pleasure and solace to them. Obesity is sometimes also the result of disturbances of the thyroid or pituitary glands. But glandular disorders account for only about 2% of the total incidence of obesity. Treatment: A suitably planned course of dietetic treatment, in conjunction with suitable exercise and other measures for promoting elimination is the only scientific way of dealing with obesity. To begin with, the patient should undertake a juice fast for 7-10 days. Juices of lemon, grape fruit, orange, pineapple, cabbage, celery, may be taken during this period. Long juice fast up to 40 days can also be undertaken, but only under expert guidance and supervision. In the alternative, short juice fasts should be repeated at regular intervals of two months or so till the desired reduction in weight is achieved. After the juice fast, the patient should spend a further four or five days on an all-fruit diet, taking three meals of fresh juicy fruits such as oranges, grapefruit, pineapple and papaya. Thereafter, he may gradually embark upon a low-calorie well- balanced diet of three basic food groups, namely (i) seeds, nuts and grains, (ii) vegetables and (iii) fruits, with emphasis on raw fruits, vegetables, and fresh juices. The foods which should be drastically curtailed or altogether avoided are high-fat foods such as butter, cheese, chocolates, cream, ice-cream, fat meats, fried foods, and gravies; high carbohydrate foods like bread, candy, cake, cookies, cereal products, legumes, potatoes, honey, sugar, syrup and rich puddings beverages such as all-fountain drinks and alcoholic drinks. One sure method of reducing weight is by practicising what is known as “Fletcherism”. It was discovered in 1898 by Horace Fletcher of the U.S.A.. Fletlcher, at 40, considered himself an old man. He was 50 pounds overweight, contracted flu every six months and constantly complained of indigestion and a tired feeling. After a deep study, he made some important discoveries and prescribed the rules for “Fletcherism” which are as follows: 1. One should start with small quantity of about 10 g to be taken with hot water. The dose can be gradually increased. Fasting on honey-lime juice water is highly beneficial in the treatment of obesity without the loss of energy and appetite. In this mode of treatment, one spoon of fresh honey should be mixed with a juice of half a lime in a glass of lukewarm water and taken at regularly intervals. Sarvangasana, halasana, bhujangasana, shalabhasana, dhanurasana, chakrasana, naukasana, ardh-matsyendrasana, paschimottanasana, vajrasana, yogamudra, and trikonasana are recommended. These asanas work on the glands, improve circulation, strengthen many weak areas and induce deep breathing which helps to melt off excess fat gradually. Yogic kriyas like kunjal and jalneti and pranayamas such as kapalbhati and bhastrika are also helpful in normalising body weight. The patient should also adopt measures which bring on excessive perspiration such as sauna baths, steam bath, and heavy massage. They help to reduce weight. Above all, obese persons should make every effort to avoid negative motions such as anxiety, fear, hostility and insecurity and develop a positive outlook on life.

  5. My problem is little bit different. I am sorry for such a long detailed comment. I added this disclaimer when I found after some minutes that I had written a lot…………………………….. My wife and I have been together for almost 16 years now (I’m 32, she’s 30). When we met we were both a healthy weight. After highschool I gained a few pounds (became chubby, not fat) and while she was in highschool she was prescribed prozac and gained a fair amount of weight (probably 60lbs in a few years). When we got married (22 and 20 years old) she was close to 200 lbs at 5’3″ and I was 205 at 5’9″. I didn’t mind that she was a little overweight because I was a little overweight and I figured we could lose it together. As the years went on I stayed close to the same (got up to 215 lbs at one point) but she kept gaining and gaining. We tried a few different exercise plans here and there but nothing really stuck for the first 5 years. After 5 years I was up to 215 lbs and she was about 300 lbs. We purchased a condo that had a gym and on the same day we moved in our work started a “Summer Slim-Down” contest. Winner got $250 so we both entered; I took it seriously and she didn’t. Over the next 6 weeks I dropped 30 lbs and she lost 3, I believe. I won the contest and continued to work out regularly for the next 3 years and asked her EVERY TIME if she wanted to join me but she rarely did. I got in really good shape and wanted her to be as well. I tried everything. I was nice, supportive, helpful. I would ask if she would like me to make her some of what I’m eating for dinner (healthy items: chicken, veggies, etc.) but she ALWAYS refused because she’s so damn picky. Her diet consists of mainly mac and cheese and ice cream. She has ice cream EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. And not just 1 or 2 servings, but 3 or 4+. She goes through a 1.5 quart container in 3, sometimes 2 days. Hell, she’s gone through one in a 24 hour period. And she’s dragging me down with her. It’s not even her weight that bothers me so much, but her lack of commitment to our relationship in general. She does nothing to help out around the house. And I mean nothing. I do 49/50 loads of laundry, 99/100 loads of dishes, she vacuums maybe once a year, cleans her bathroom maybe twice a year. She’ll work 12-14 hour days and bust her ass for our employer, but she does NOTHING to help me out. She comes home from work and sits in her recliner for 4-6 hours playing on her god damn phone. She waits until I get up and then asks me to make her dinner or get her water or grab her the tablet out of the bedroom, but she won’t get up herself to do anything but go to the bathroom and get herself ice cream (because I give her smaller portions). After years and years of her wanting a dog I finally gave in hoping that would get her out and moving. I refused for so long because I knew, I KNEW, I would be primarily responsible for it. It would be up to me to walk it, take it potty, clean up it’s puke/poop/pee, feed it, everything. A friend of hers fostered a border collie puppy that we fell in love with and she PROMISED that she would help, so I finally relented. I was right. She does NOTHING. Literally NOTHING to help out with her. I walk her 3 times a day (3-5 miles almost every day), train her, take her potty, go home at lunch and play/walk her, clean up her shit inside when she has accidents and outside. All she wants to do is cuddle with her and feed her treats (and she’s not a cuddly dog so my wife just mad that she won’t cuddle). And now she’s hurt because our dog is a daddys girl. I raised her! My wife went to 1/12 training classes with us. Spent, maybe, 5 minutes a week “training” her (just doing tricks she already knew and giving her treats). When we first got her as a puppy I woke up every 2 hours in the middle of the night to take her potty so she wouldn’t have an accident. I wake up every day at 6:30 while my wife sleeps because she has to go potty. Since we got her last March my wife has taken her out 2 times in the morning and let me sleep in. It’s ruining our marriage. I don’t find her attractive at all and then she gets hurt when I don’t want to have sex with her. Up until recently I could just grit my teeth and get the job done, albeit as seldom as possible. But now I’m having trouble keeping it up while we’re having sex. I have to close my eyes and imagine someone else. It’s not ED; I can stay rock hard when watching porn and masturbating just fine. When we got our dog last year all my free time disappeared and with that my exercise time. I stopped working out completely and gained 20 lbs over the past year. My wife can’t even be bothered to take her potty while I work out because “she’d have to put pants on”. So I have to stop what I’m doing and take her out. She won’t even get out of her recliner to play with her and keep her busy for an hour a few nights a week. I’m at the absolute end of my rope. For the first time in our 10 year marriage I’m truly considering talking to a divorce lawyer. Funny thing is, we can’t afford a divorce because my wife has no fucking clue what’s going on with our finances. She’ll buy Groupons and shit without even logging into our bank account to see if there’s a single fucking dime in our account. Or ask if said dime is reserved for a bill. She just doesn’t give a fuck. She recently took out a loan on her 401k because she wanted to go on a vacation and then insisted on buying a $1,300 Surface Pro 3 with half of the loan.

  6. I do follow strict yoga diet. I would like to relate to real life incidence with all. Never mentioned it, cooked/bought good healthy food, discouraged us from eating out so much, took him on walks with me, when he asks me to give him privacy to do push-ups and crunches I politely leave the room and don’t make a big deal of it, while it made him less attractive to me I never mentioned it (he was still attractive). That was two years ago and now he is no longer overweight.
