cholesterol control risky foods

Cholesterol is a steroid lipid (fat) found in the blood of all animals and is necessary for proper functioning of our cell membranes and production of hormones. While there can be negative health benefits associated with low cholesterol, cholesterol deficiency is rare. Our bodies already manufacture all the cholesterol we need, so it is not necessary to consume more. Excessive consumption of cholesterol has been shown to increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. Cholesterol is only found in animal food products, and thus, vegans are likely to have lower cholesterol than non-vegans. It is recommended that you buy a Cholesterol Test Kit, so you can monitor your cholesterol levels at home and see which diet works best for you. High cholesterol foods include eggs, liver, fish, fast foods, butter, shellfish, shrimp, bacon, sausages, red meat, cheese, and pastries. The current daily value (DV) for cholesterol is 300mg.

Foods to avoid in high cholesterol

As a food that is high in iron, liver can be a healthy dish for some.

For others, however, liver can add to your levels of high cholesterol as this organ is the body’s primary source of cholesterol, and is where the waxy substance is made and stored, the American Heart Association website says. The highest concentrated levels of cholesterol in animals are found in organ meat.

Muffins can be a healthy breakfast choice, but that can depend on how the muffin is made. For example, eating a low-fat bran muffin made with whole wheat flour can be beneficial to your health. But muffins that we bake at home with whole milk and eggs and fill with extra treats, like chocolate chips, can have up to 8 grams of fat in one serving.

While there are many health benefits to eating shellfish, those with heart disease or high cholesterol should avoid these foods.

Three ounces of lobster contains 61 mg of cholesterol, and that doesn’t include dipping it in melted butter.shellfish foods cholesterol risk

Macaroni and Cheese

Whether you’re a kid or an adult, mac n’ cheese is one of America’s favorite comfort foods. However much we may love this gooey collection of cheeses and pasta, often topped with breadcrumbs and a little bacon, the ingredients that make up this dish, such as whole milk, butter, and cheese, can be filled with saturated fats and cholesterol.

French Fries

Another American favorite, French Fries are considered a high cholesterol food due to the presence of hydrogenated vegetable oils. “Partially hydrogenating vegetable oils makes food more stable and less likely to spoil. It also converts the oil into a solid, which makes transportation easier. Partially hydrogenated oils can also withstand repeated heating without breaking down, making them ideal for frying fast foods,” says the Harvard School of Public Health study on fats and cholesterol. Foods made with partially hydrogenated oils can have large amounts of Trans fats, the study said.

  5. litebug12345 says:

I used to try to get plant sterols from my diet, but then i read that you have to drink like 3 and 1/2 glasses of soy milk or 25 tablespoons of soy margarine to get that!! That is a LOT of margarine for someone who’s watching their weight. Sterolyn gives me all that by only taking 2 capsules. Works for me.

  6. webmasterd says:

that’s a lot of work. I started taking “cholest off”. seems to work. Don’t think doctors like it cuz they rather give you a drug with side effects to lower cholesterol.

  7. TheZachRogers says:

I have found the most effective and safe way for me to lower my cholesterol is to take a natural supplement. About 4 months ago, I found CholestPROTECT… The results have been impressive.

  8. ZoeHarcombe says:

This is one of the worst pieces of misinformation I have ever heard. Look up the biochemical chain for the synthesis of cholesterol and ask this man at what point in the chain eating fat can have any impact on the process?! It can’t.
Eskimos have no heart disease because they eat no sugar or refined carbs. This is why the US has high heart disease (it is also why Switzerland, France, Austria etc have high fat intake, low refined carb intake and low heart disease.)
