Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease which is is transmitted to humans most commonly by an infected female Anopheles mosquito.

The disease is transmitted by the biting of mosquitos, and the symptoms usually begin ten to fifteen days after being bitten. If not appropriately treated, people may have recurrences of the disease months later.

Malaria is prevalent mainly in tropical and subtropical regions and is spreading its tentacles to all parts of the world. There are three kinds of malaria that tend to victimize humans. They are tertian fever, quartan fever and malignant tertian malaria.

Malaria has several serious complications. Among these is the development of respiratory distress, which occurs in up to 25% of adults and 40% of children with severe P. falciparum malaria.

Symptoms of malaria can recur after varying symptom-free periods. Depending upon the cause, recurrence can be classified as either recrudescence, relapse, or reinfection. Recrudescence is when symptoms return after a symptom-free period. It is caused by parasites surviving in the blood as a result of inadequate or ineffective treatment

In 1 glass of water, add 1 tsp of cinnamon powder and bring to a boil. Thereafter add a pinch of pepper powder and some honey to it before drinking.

Eating grapefruit serves as an effective remedy in treating malaria, as it contains quinine-like substance.

The herb chirayata, botanically known as Swertia chirata is considered valuable in curing intermittent malarial fevers. In 250 ml hot water, add 15 grams of this herb along with aromatics like cloves and cinnamon and consume in the doses of 15 to 30 ml.
