reduce allergies

Allergies are more common than ever and they usually affect more and more people. Allergy is an abnormal reaction of the immune system to a particular substance. There is no clear reason for the rise of allergies. Some experts believe it is associated with pollution and unclean environment. This type of disorder can be mild but can also be severe. Without proper treatment and prevention, this might cause death. There are lots and different treatment for allergies. You can choose from a variety of options.

The easiest way to ease the annoying symptoms of allergies is through medications. Over the counter and prescriptions are convenient because they are readily available. These allergy drugs include antihistamines, decongestants, combination medicines, corticosteroids, and others. Antihistamines have been used for many years to treat allergies and hypersensitive reactions and colds. This works by counteracting the effects of histamine on a receptor sit. Decongestants relieve congestion and are often prescribed along with antihistamines for allergies. They come in nasal spray, eye drop, liquid, or pill form.

Another way to treat allergies is through immunotherapy or most commonly known as allergy shots. They are given to increase the tolerance to the substances known as allergens that provoke allergy symptoms. They are usually recommended for people who suffer from severe allergies. They do not cure allergies but they help reduce sensitivity to certain substances. Immunotherapy is effective for allergies to stinging insects, a variety of pollens and dust mites, as well as for allergic asthma. Even for molds and pet dander, this is also effective.

The latest treatment to allergies is Leukotriene Inhibitors. Montelukast is a leukotriene inhibitor approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for relief of seasonal allergy conditions and hay fever in adults and in children older than 2 years of age. These are chemical substances that promote the inflammatory response seen during exposure to allergens. By keeping these chemicals from producing swelling, leukotriene inhibitors reduce inflammation. These are available in tablet, chewable tablet and oral granule forms (with prescription from your doctor).

The most natural way to relieve allergies is through natural treatment such as herbs and nature-based products. Using herbs and natural based products are very efficient in treating mild allergies and other important allergies. The most popular treatment is the European herb butterbur. This is as effective as an antihistamine drug in reducing symptoms of hay fever without the symptom of drowsiness once it is taken. Another effective natural treatment is salt water or saline. It works to wash out pollen and reduce mucous.

Preventing and treating food allergy

You can only prevent the symptoms of food allergy by avoiding the allergenic food. After you and your healthcare professional have identified the food(s) to which you are sensitive, you must remove them from your diet.

There is currently no cure for food allergies, and the available treatments only ease the symptoms of a food-induced allergic reaction.

Read labels

Read the list of ingredients on the label of each prepared food that you are considering eating. Many allergens, such as peanut, egg, and milk, may appear in prepared foods you normally would not associate them with.

Since 2006, U.S. food manufacturers have been required by law to list the ingredients of prepared foods. In addition, food manufacturers must use plain language to disclose whether their products contain (or may contain) any of the top eight allergenic foods—egg, milk, peanut, tree nuts, soy, wheat, shellfish, and fish.

Keep clean

Simple measures of cleanliness can remove most allergens from the environment of a person with food allergy. For example, simply washing your hands with soap and water will remove peanut allergens, and most household cleaners will remove allergens from surfaces.

Unintentional exposure

When you have food allergies, you must be prepared to treat an unintentional exposure. Talk to your healthcare professional and develop a plan to protect yourself in case of an unintentional exposure to the food. For example, you should take the following steps:

  1. Wear a medical alert bracelet or necklace
  2. Carry an auto-injector device containing epinephrine (adrenaline)
  3. Seek medical help immediately

Mild symptoms

Talk to your healthcare professional to find out what medicines may relieve mild food allergy symptoms that are not part of an anaphylactic reaction. However, be aware that it is very hard for you to know which reactions are mild and which may lead to anaphylaxis.

wine flu has already been in America in 1976 and president Jimmy Carter. They freaked out and made a botched vaccine that ended up killing more people then swine flu. If you are young/old wash your hands. I mean, real epidemics never happen when they are expected.

  10. Yeah, it may have originated in Mexico, but a handful of people already have it in a few countries. right now, I don’t think the possibility of pandemic is very high, as long as the proper precautions are taken, and people are informed (not panicked )

  11. There are always freak outs like this, and they’ve always going to be treated like the next apocalypse. Fact of the matter is; the situation is being handled by both Governments responsibly and with proper precaution. All the cases in the USA and other countries outside of Mexico so far have been mild, and many people are already recovering.
