Blackheads Treatment on Face and Nose

Here are few ways that could help you keeping the black heads away.

1. Washing the face is the first and basic step that needs to be followed. Taking warm water and a little face wash is very essential try and wash your face at least thrice a day. It will definitely have an effect. The shine and brightness will make you look very nice. Use a cream instead of a soap it gives a nicer feeling. Dry your face with a soft towel.

2. The next step is use a nice face scrub that will help in opening up the pores on your skin and remove all the oil from your skin. This will definitely be essential as this is opening up the pores of the skin and letting it breathe and be clean. Scrub your nose well with the face scrub as in this region the black heads are maximum and are difficult to remove so scrubbing nicely will definitely help.

3. To open the pores and to get rid of all the oil you could steam your face which will help the most. Boil some water and put it in a bowl. The water should have steam coming out as the steam has to go on your face which makes the pores soft and opens up all the pores. So put your face over the bowl and cover your face with a towel making it like a vacuum and not letting the steam out. The steam is very essential but do not steam you face for more than 5 to 10 minutes it could be dangerous.

Causes of Blackheads

Black heads and white heads don’t look the same, but they are both comedones. Comedones typically accompany acne, although people without acne may occasionally have them. They are not related to dirty skin and the black color of a blackhead is not caused by dirt.

Comedones form in enlarged pores containing the hair producing follicles. The pores on your skin are openings that lead to a hair root and an oil-producing gland or to a sweat gland.

Inside the enlarged pore, pieces of dead skin cells, bacteria and oil combined to form a “plug”. The plug may appear yellow or blackish in color.

The two kinds of comedones are open, commonly called a blackhead, and closed; what we usually call whiteheads. A blackhead is an open comedone because there is a small opening that leads to the surface. A whitehead is closed because there is no opening.

The composition of the plug is the same. The plug turns black when there is an opening; due to exposure to air that causes oxidation. When not exposed to the air, the plug remains white, which is simply the color of pieces of dead skin cells, oil and bacteria.

One of the underlying causes of both black heads and white heads is excessive oil production. The oil produced by the skin is called sebum. It serves as a lubricant protecting the skin from friction. It also helps to keep the skin moist by holding water in the skin cells. It is sebum that darkens as it oxidizes.

Another cause is excessive skin debris, the pieces of dead skin cells mentioned above. The debris does not originate from deep within the pore, but near the surface or from the surface. The pieces contain the protein keratin, which is found in the outermost layers of the skin’s cells, but not in the epithelium lining the pores.

A third cause may be bacteria overgrowth. Bacteria are naturally present on the skin.

We cannot get rid of them completely, no matter how much we wash or how much antibacterial soap we use. The bacteria cause few problems except in the case of acne and sometimes in causing infections in cuts or scrapes.

Because there is an opening to the skin’s surface, black heads can be removed using an extractor, a metal tool with a small hole on each side. It is used to press down the skin surrounding the plug, causing it to be forced out.

  4. Kranti Mehta says:

Though the best way to remove blackheads is an area of contention, the most common method for getting rid of blackheads is to gently squeeze them. Removing the “stuff” inside of the blackhead helps the skin because you are relieving the pressure which causes the damage. We know it can be nearly impossible to leave a blemish alone so here are some tips for gentle blackhead removal: Use a mild scrub or exfoliant to remove any dead cells and expose the blackhead. Pat your face dry. Place a slightly warm compress on your face for approximately 10-15 minutes in order to soften the blackhead, making it easier to remove. Pat your face dry again. Place a piece of tissue on the tip of each finger to avoid slipping, which could tear the skin and cause further damage. Gently apply even pressure to both sides of the blackhead by pushing down, then up around the blemish. You’re trying to apply the pressure from *underneath* the blackhead. Only attempt this once or twice. If it does not “pop”, you may bruise the skin, make the blackhead worse, and could cause scarring.

  5. Nazneen says:

There are many things that you can do to prevent blackheads from appearing on your face. Most involve cleansing and some require the use of medications. Avoid using creamy, greasy, and thick (emollient) products. This alone will greatly lessen your chances of sprouting blackheads. Use a gentle and water-soluble cleanser. DO NOT use bar soap!!! The ingredients that hold soap in a bar form can clog the pores in your skin. They can also cause skin cells to flake off prematurely and clog the pores. If you have dry skin you will need to use a cleanser that has a bit of moisturizer in it, but be careful! The excess moisturizers can cause an increase in oil on your skin. Exfoliate to eliminate dead skin cells. If there are no skin cells to clog the pores, the natural oil is able to flow through freely. Exfoliation also removes the built up dead cells from inside the pores that cause them to become misshapen and more-easily clogged. Using an exfoliant that contains 1% or 2% beta hydroxy acids (BHA or Salicylic Acid) will penetrate the lining of the pore. If you are unable to use BHAs, you could use products containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), however these acids are only good for surface exfoliation because they do not penetrate the pore lining. Absorb excess oil. If you have oily skin, try using a clay mask that does not contain mint, peppermint or other irritating ingredients. This will absorb the oil that may clog the poor. If you have dry skin, this is not necessary because pimples on dry skin are caused by oil inside the pore, not on the surface of the skin. Also, oil-absorbing papers may help to reduce the oil in your pores. Visit your dermatologist. Retinoids, which are a form of Vitamin A, can help regulate the pore shape which will keep oil flowing normally. The most common retinoids are tretinoin and adapalene, found in prescriptions such as Avita, Renova, Retin-A, Tazorac, and Differin. Other medications. Hormone blockers and low-dose birth control pills can lower levels of androgens (the male hormone) and Accutane should be discussed with your physician in severe cases of oily skin and breakouts.

  6. Bharat Kumar says:

I wash my face with oats. I take a small handful of rolled oats, get it damp and then use circular motions to rub it on my face, then I let it sit for 5-10 minutes before washing off. It’s really helped improve my complexion, including blackheads.

  7. Nancy says:

You are actually removing sebaceous filaments (sf) with a pore strip. This leaves your pore open to fill with debris than stretch your pores. It’s a vicious cycle. You are left with giant crater pores. Mac strength stridex pads are good to use on SFs.

  8. Leahya says:

Yeah.. I occasionally get the brilliant idea to try to individually remove them. Usually results in painful redness a day or two later. I use twiks to remove them. Now the tips given here can help me a bit.

  9. Reema Malik says:

Liked the article. Makes sense when you think about it – there’s no reason it shouldn’t be able to pretty much take care of itself, like the rest of your body.

  10. Mrinalini says:

Yep. I started taking showers with room temperature water a while back, using normal ‘real’ soap just once a day, and not using any other facial products. My skin has never been better. Before, I was stuck in this cycle of using harsh facial cleansers then having to make up for that by using some other cream on my face, which just caused my skin to go all apeshit and do crazy stuff.
